LA Clippers vs. Golden State Warriors – Regular Season Stats & Betting Trends

Can The Clippers Hang With The Suddenly Surging Warriors?

LA Clippers Season Stats:

  • Scoring Offense: 118.0 PPG – 10TH
  • Offensive Efficiency: 120.5 points per 100 possessions – 3RD
  • Scoring Defense: 112.5 PPG – 9TH
  • Defensive Efficiency: 114.8 points per 100 possessions – 11TH

The LA Clippers have the second-best record in the Western Conference and trail the Minnesota Timberwolves by one game for the top spot. Los Angeles comes into this matchup riding a two-game winning streak with seven wins in its last 10 outings.

This includes a 121-100 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night. Paul George tied for the team’s scoring honor with 18 points to go along with six boards, and three dimes. Kawhi Leonard also finished with 18 points and four rebounds.

The Clippers lead the league in shooting at 49.3 percent. But they shot just 40.5 percent from the field and 32.1 percent (9-for-28) from beyond the arc.

“They played better than we did. Outcoached us, outplayed us and everything,” Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said, via ESPN. “I thought just the physicality and attention to detail, they were better.”

The Clippers and Warriors have played three times this season with the home team winning each time. Shooting efficiency has been the deciding factor in those three games. With that being said, the Clippers will be tested against a Warriors squad that has been playing well as of late.

Can The Warriors Extend Their Winning Streak To Six Games?

Golden State Warriors Season Stats:

  • Scoring Offense: 119.2 PPG – 6TH
  • Offensive Efficiency: 118.3 points per 100 possessions – 11TH
  • Scoring Defense: 117.6 PPG – 19TH
  • Defensive Efficiency: 116.7 points per 100 possessions – 17TH

Although the Golden State Warriors are in the No. 10 spot out west, they have been trending in the right direction over the past couple of weeks. They have posted seven wins across their last 10 outings.

Not only that, but they have also won each of their last five contests, including an impressive 129-107 victory against the Utah Jazz on Monday night. Additionally, all the Warriors’ starting five scored in double figures.

Klay Thompson – who has struggled most of the season – led Golden State with 29 points on 11-for-19 shooting from the field and 3-for-7 from beyond the arc. He also tallied six rebounds and two assists.

Stephen Curry added 25 points, 10 assists, and six rebounds while knocking down seven of his 16 attempts from 3-point range. Andre Wiggins contributed 17 points on 6-for-10 from the floor and a perfect 3-for-3 effort from long range.

Thompson’s 26-point performance was the most he has scored since torching the Chicago Bulls for 30 points back in mid-January.

“When I get cuts to the rim and stay patient from the 3-point line … when I get early looks at the rim, and I got a couple of mid-range jumpers, everything opens up and I think that’s what allowed me to have an efficient night from the field,” Thompson said after the game.

The Warriors are hoping to give head coach Steve Kerr his 500th victory. However, it will not be an easy task against a Clippers team that has found its groove.

Now that we have set the table for Western Conference showdown, let us look at the betting trends for both sides.

The Picks

The Spread

The Golden State Warriors opened as a three-point underdog. At the time of this writing, the line has shifted in the other direction, with the Warriors now being a three-point favorite. (per pre-game.com). Here is a look at how both teams have fared against the spread this season.

  • The Clippers are 2-4 ATS in their last six games.
  • Los Angeles is 12-6 ATS in its 18 contests against Western Conference opponents.
  • In its last six matchups against teams in the Pacific Division, Los Angeles is 5-1 against the spread.
  • The Warriors have covered the spread in each of their last five outings.
  • Golden State is 4-1 ATS in its last five home games.
  • In their last five contests against Western Conference teams, the Warriors are 4-1 against the spread.

The Warriors have been playing well as of late, but I expect the Clippers to get back on track sooner rather than later. With that in mind, going with the road team to cover is the best play here.

Prediction: LA Clippers (+3)

Over/Under

The projected over/under total for this matchup opened at 236.5 points. The line has recently dipped to 234 points. Here is why going with the “under” is the smart choice.

  • The total has gone UNDER eight times in the Clippers; last 10 games.
  • The UNDER total has cashed in four times in LA’s last five February games.
  • In the Warriors’ last five outings, the UNDER total prevailed ALL five times.
  • The total has gone UNDER 10 times in Golden State’s last 11 February contests.

Prediction: UNDER 234 points

Team Prop Bets

As of right now, only the Clippers players have prop bets available. With that in mind, we will focus on the team prop bets.

The Clippers have -115 odds of scoring more than 115.5 points and -115 odds of scoring less than 115.5 points.

Here is a glance to see how their season numbers compare to the projected points total for this matchup.

  • During the season, the Clippers are averaging 118 points per outing.
  • In 26 road contests this season, Los Angeles is averaging 117.3 PPG.
  • The Clippers have played against Western Conference teams 34 times this season. In those contests, they are averaging 116.7 points per outing.
  • In 10 matchups against Pacific Division opponents, Los Angeles is averaging 122.2 points per game.
  • In February, the Clippers are averaging 117.7 points per game, while exceeding the points total for this matchup four times during that stretch.

Given the above trends, going with the “over” for the Clippers is the best choice here.

Prediction: LA Clippers OVER 115.5 points

Meanwhile, the Golden State Warriors have -120 odds of scoring more than 117.5 points and -110 odds of scoring less than 117.5 points.
