French Pro A and Pro B suspended

French President Emmanuel Macron has announced a second national lockdown until at least the end of November. As a result, the French Pro A and Pro B have been suspended. However, that was not obligatory under the new lockdown rules.

President Macron said that under the new measures, starting on Friday, people would only be allowed to leave home for essential work or medical reasons.

Non-essential businesses, such as restaurants and bars, will close, but schools and factories will remain open.

Covid daily deaths in France are at the highest level since April. On Tuesday, 33,000 new cases were confirmed.

It is not yet clear when the Pro A and Pro will resume. In a statement on the LNB website, they say that they wait for the Government to provide additional details regarding the President’s statements on professional sport.

The decision of the Pro A and Pro B highlights the problems European basketball is currently facing. Games are being rescheduled left and right, and every day there are new reports on COVID-19 cases and teams forced into quarantine. The Czech NBL was the first league to suspend the entire league, followed by the Dutch basketball league.
