Crvena Zvezda survives CSKA Moscow in Jordan Loyd’s EuroLeague career night

Crvena Zvezda edged CSKA Moscow in a late overtime thriller in Belgrade (86-84), thanks to Jordan Loyd’s career night in the EuroLeague.

Loyd exploded and scored a career-high and EuroLeague season-high 31 points in 31 minutes of action.

Three more players scored in double figures for the winners, who earned a big home victory in the EuroLeague.

For his part, Hackett had a career-high 29 points for the losing squad, but were not enough for the Muscovites, while Will Clyburn added 18.

Zvezda came back from a 14-point deficit in the third quarter and forced an overtime (73-73).

In the extra period, Loyd took over and led his team to the triumph over the 2019 EuroLeague champions.

Zvezda improved to 2-2 in the EuroLeague standings, whereas CSKA dropped to 2-3.

In a classic derby between two EuroLeague powerhouses, Panathinaikos rallied past Fenerbahce in Athens (82-68).

The home team never trailed after the opening minutes and had a couple of double-digit leads.

The Turks came back multiple times during the contest, yet a 10-2 run late in the game let the “Greens” seal the deal.

Nemanja Nedovic went for 28 points for the winners, on 7/12 from beyond the arc.

Lorenzo Brown led Fenerbahce with 17 points, but could not prevent his team from suffering another EuroLeague loss.

Fenerbahce lost for the third time in a row in the EuroLeague and now is at 2-3.

For its part, Panathinaikos recovered from the defeat to Barcelona last week and now has a 2-2 record.

Valencia erupted for 57 points in the second half against Zalgiris Kaunas and earned the 82-94 win at the Zalgirio Arena.

The Spaniards trailed by 10 in the second quarter, but went on a 2-17 run early in the second half and never looked back.

The Lithuanians never recovered after that and lost for the first time in the 2020/21 EuroLeague.

Five players scored in double figures for the winners, with Bojan Dubljevic and Vanja Marinkovic scoring 16 points apiece.

For Zalgiris, Marius Grigonis and Augustine Rubit each scored 12.

Valencia improved to 3-1, whereas Zalgiris is still on top of the EuroLeague standings with a 4-1 record.

The games Zenit Saint Petersburg vs Armani Milano and ALBA Berlin vs Baskonia did not take place due to multiple positive coronavirus cases.

The EuroLeague will reschedule both games to a later date.
