Zenit beat CSKA after double OT and ties VTB league semi-final series
Zenit beat CSKA in Game 2 of the VTB league semi-finals at home with 107:104 (15:18, 16:21, 20:20, 24:16, 12:12, 20:17).
Zenit was struggling at the beginning and trailed CSKA 31-39 at halftime. Things looked even worse in the third quarter when CSKA lead by double digits, but thanks to a mini-run, Zenit could close the gap to only an eight-point deficit at the end of the third quarter (51-59).
When everybody expected the knock-out blow from CSKA, Zenit’s star player Kevin Pangos stood up and brought his team back from the dead. That resulted in Zenit forcing overtime (75-75).
At the end of that overtime, there was still no winner (87-87), and the teams started the second overtime. In those last five minutes, Kevin Pangos again took matters into his own hands and ultimately led his team Zenit to a 107-104 victory. Pangos scored 27 points and had nine assists.
Zenit and CSKA have both won one game in the best of three semi-final series. The decisive third game will be in Moscow on May 22.
