Zalgiris Kaunas is the 2019 Lithuanian League champion
Zalgiris Kaunas dominated Rytas Vilnius (92-54) and swept the Lithuanian League Finals (3-0). And thereby claimed its ninth straight title.
Zalgiris Kaunas was unstoppable on both ends and played excellent for 40 minutes. Consequently, they led from start to finish and earned an easy victory.
Rytas never recovered from an early double-digit deficit (20-9, 43-20, 78-36) and suffered another painful loss. The team from Vilnius never managed to challenge the newly-crowned champions.
Edgaras Ulanovas had a team-high 15 points for Zalgiris Kaunas. On the other hand, Martynas Echodas posted a game-high 17 points for Rytas Vilnius.
This was the 21st Lithuanian League title in the history of Zalgiris Kaunas.
After facing many ups and downs, Zalgiris ultimately ended the season in a triumphant way.
Coach Sarunas Jasikevicius and his players really dominated their opponents in the postseason and cruised to another title.
At the same time, they qualified for the EuroLeague playoffs for a second straight year. Despite losing in the playoffs to Fenerbahce (3-1), they showed they are one of the top European teams.
Now, Zalgiris Kaunas will focus on the next season and will attempt to build a talented and deep roster.
Jasikevicius will likely remain with the team for another year. However, there are NBA teams (Memphis Grizzlies) that have expressed their interest to hire him.
Regarding the roster, many changes will likely take place. Brandon Davies and Aaron White are expected to leave the team. The same will happen with guard Nate Wolters.
Zalgiris Kaunas, though, has already announced the addition of Partizan power forward/center Jock Landale to the roster.
Furthermore, the Lithuanian club is reportedly targeting Nigel Williams-Goss of Olympiacos Piraeus.
In case Jasikevicius re-signs with Zalgiris Kaunas, the squad will attempt to acquire Lukas Lekavicius and Mindaugas Kuzminskas.
The aforementioned duo spent the previous season playing for Panathinaikos and Armani Milano, respectively.
Overall, Zalgiris Kaunas ended the season in the best way possible. Now, they have their sights set on building a great roster for next year.
