Zalgiris crushes Lietuvos Rytas 90-60 in derby game
Lithuanian rivals B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas and Lietuvos Rytas Vilnius have completed the latest chapter in their intense competition. The stage this time was in Lithuania’s LKL. Zalgiris managed to garner another notch on their belt with a dominant and convincing 90-60 win over their foes.
This is the 32nd win for Zalgiris and they sit comfortably atop of the league standings with their 32-3 record. The game result widens the gap between them and second-placer at seven games, Lietuvos Rytas which now sports a 25-10 slate. Zalgiris has locked up the top seed for the post-season but Lietkabelis (24-11) is still within striking distance of seizing the second spot away from Lietuvos Rytas if they are not careful.
Zalgiris put up a big run in the second quarter and established a huge, 20-point lead at halftime. From there, it was pretty much smooth sailing for the league leaders for the most part of the second half. They stayed in control and cruised to the easy win.
Lukas Lekavicius paced the victors with 19 points and seven boards. Paulius Jankunas added 12 points of his own for the green shirts.
