Worldrecordholder Nymburk wins the Czech title, again.
Nymburk beat Opava with 108-89 in the Czech League final series and won the national title for the SEVENTEENTH time in a row.
Nymburk has not lost a play off game since 2011 (28-0)! That’s a world record.
Nymburk had already won the first game (102-73) in the best-of-three final series and had no problems in yesterday’s game either. They were already up by 15 points at half-time and played the rest of the game on auto-pilot.
Belgian guard Retin Obasohan was the MVP of the finals.

The most shocking event in the Czech league was November 15th, 2020, when Nymburk lost the first game since March 3, 2018. That loss ended a winning streak of 73 games. That too is a world record.
Nymburk is clearly to big for the Czech Republic but how is the performance in international competition?
They have never played in the Euroleague, which is the top-tier league outside of the NBA. This season, Nymburk was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the FIBA champions league. Despite the name, that league is only the third-tier international league in Europe, after the Euroleague and Eurocup. Nymburk’s overall record in the FIBA Champions League was 9-4 this season. It is pretty consistent with previous seasons.
So how strong is Nymburk? For a couple of season’s Nymburk participated in the VTB League but did not do well there. They had a losing record and were one of the weaker teams. More than a decade ago, Nymburk also tried its luck in the Adriatic league but had a losing record there as well.
Conslusion; Nymburk is too big for the Czech League but too small for the elite leagues of Europe.
