James Wiseman To Play for Warriors’ G League Team
The Golden State Warriors have decided to let young big man James Wiseman play in the G League. In an effort to help him progress through playing tons of games and minutes, the Warriors are assigning Wiseman to the Santa Cruz Warriors, a stint that’s expected to last up to 10 days. According to Kendra Andrews of ESPN, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr mentioned that Wiseman needs more reps and court action, as that could help the 21-year-old understand the game better and adapt to different situations on both ends of the floor.
James Wiseman, who was the second overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, has struggled to make a positive impact in his third season with the Warriors. Through 11 games, the lefty big man has only logged 13.4 minutes, averaging 6.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 0.4 blocks per contest. Having redshirted the previous year due to a knee injury, Wiseman was expected to be a key cog in the Warriors’ second unit. But he has struggled to find his footing at the start of the season and has fallen out of the team’s rotation. Wiseman didn’t play in three of the Warriors’ last four games.
Having said that, Wiseman could use his G League stint as a springboard to the next level. There’s no doubt that he would dominate there, and he could ride that positive momentum when he returns to the Warriors lineup. He has the potential to be a game-changing big in today’s game, especially with the length and mobility that he brings with his 7-foot frame.
