Warriors go big downtown, need one win for NBA title
The Golden State Warriors took another big step towards a second consecutive NBA title by defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 108-87 on Friday. Victory handed the Warriors a 3-1 lead after the Cavs had clawed a big victory in Game 3. While the Cavaliers are not cooked, no team with LeBron James ever really is, Golden State seems to have unstoppable momentum.
That is especially the case now that Stephen Curry is somewhere back to his best. The two time NBA MVP has been off the boil through the first three games of the finals series, but he came alive in Game 4. Of course, Curry coming alive means dropping massive bombs from beyond the arc, with seven 3-pointers in this game.
Curry had only scored 48 points in the whole series so far, but in this contest he sent home 38 points and looks in the mood to settle the season in Game 5. Curry’s return to heavy hitting form helped the franchise bounce back from a crushing defeat in Game 3 that seemed to have given Cleveland some momentum.
“Business as usual,” Curry said. “We answered the bell. We got back to who we are as a team.”
It is most definitely worth noting that the warriors poured in 17 from downtown, an impressive feat on its own, but almost remarkable considering the team only hit 16 from two point distance during the game. Incidentally, 17 triples in one contest is a NBA Finals record.
With home floor advantage, this was the chance for the Cavs to even the series, but the opportunity seems to have been missed with the series now heading back to Oakland.
