Walter Jeklin resigns as Prokom GM
Walter Jeklin, the general manager of Asseco Prokom Gdynia (Poland) will step down from his post and today is his last day working with the team. Jeklin’s departure from the Polish powerhouse further highlights the growing financial crisis at the club.
Jeklin took the post of Prokom GM in early February 2012 with the remit of stabilizing the club and positioning it for the future. However, Walter Jeklin lasted just over one year in his post as the scale of the problems at the Polish giant become more apparent.
The escalating financial crisis at Prokom has already claimed most of the team’s foreign players who have departed the ailing business. Despite promising a new team and a new future, Jeklin has found it difficult to turn around Prokom’s fortunes and in some cases the fans have turned on their GM. For example during one match a banner read “Darth Walter” in reference to Star Wars villain Darth Vadar.
Slovenian Jeklin will now complete his last day as GM on Thursday before officially resigning his post on Friday.
