Velimir Perasovic Tempted by Anadolu Efes Istanbul
Velimir Perasovic has reached an agreement to become the new head coach of Anadolu Efes Istanbul (Turkey, TBL and Euroleague) for the 2016/2017 season and beyond. The Croatian tactician has previously coached the Istanbul club before, but this time it is something of a coup that Anadolu Efes enticed Velimir Perasovic back to the organization.
He is coming off the back of a stunning 2015/2016 campaign at the helm of Laboral Kutxa Vitoria (Spain, ACB and Euroleague) where he took the club to only its second Euroleague Final Four in its history. The club ultimately finished fourth last weekend, but Perasovic is credited with a memorable continental run and for building a solid roster.
Velimir Perasovic may feel that he has unfinished business with Anadolu Efes Istanbul considering his first term in charge did not go well. The specialist joined the club for the 2010/2011 campaign, but after a string of poor results he decided to resign from the team before the season ended.
The Croatian headed back to the familiarity of Spanish Basketball and took control of Valencia Basket through a solid period in the clubs history. During his stint Valencia made the ACB Semifinals in 2012, the Copa Del Rey final in 2013 and the Eurocup Semifinal that same year. The crowning glory of his Valencia stay came in 2014 when the club was crowned Eurocup champion.
