The University of Virginia Cavaliers survived the gauntlet known the NCAA Men’s National Basketball Championship Tournament and have been crowned as the 2019 champions.

They defeated Texas Tech University in overtime, 88-75 at U.S. Bank Stadium on Monday. The win earned UVA some much sought after redemption from last year’s upset loss to UMBC. Now, they’re the hero of the story and can now proudly claim the glory of their well-earned victory.

The narrative of this game ended up adding a splash of epic allure as it was, as expected, tightly contested by both teams. The first half was a grind, with UVA taking the slight edge. In the end, they needed to rally and complete an epic comeback in order to force overtime. In the extra period, they would not be denied as the Cavaliers outscored the Raiders 17-9 to seal the victory and raise the trophy above their heads.

De’Andre Hunter shook off a slow start to wind up finishing the game with a career-high 27 points on 8-of-16 shooting (four 3s) and nine rebounds. Kyle Guy chipped in 25 points of his own. Texas Tech was paced by Brandone Francis, who led three other teammates to score in double figures with 17 points off the bench.

And now, another chapter is in the books. The association still has a long way to towards cleaning up their tarnished image – tainted by the ichor of corruption, but for now fans are rejoicing after the conclusion of another exciting NCAA championship tournament.
