Team USA to Hold Minicamp in August
USA Basketball has announced that it will be holding a minicamp for Team USA from August 11 to 13 in preparation for next year’s Olympic games. The camp will consist of two days of non-contact workouts and one day for an intrasquad scrimmage. USA Basketball’s managing director Jerry Colangelo has announced that any player who wants to be considered for a spot on the 12-man roster must attend the minicamp, even if they cannot participate due to injury. It has been reported that both Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant and Cleveland Cavaliers’ Kevin Love will be attending the event despite the fact that both players are still recovering from injuries sustained in the 2014/15 NBA season. Love is recovering from shoulder surgery, while Durant is still recovering from foot surgery conducted in March this year.
Defending NBA champions, the Golden State Warriors have four of their players attending the event. They Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and invitees Draymond Green and Harrison Barnes. Other players expected to attend the event are Los Angeles Clippers’ forward Blake Griffin and Houston Rockets’ James Harden. San Antonio’s Kawhi Leonard will be attending as well.
Portland Trail Blazers’ Damian Lillard, who was cut from the USAB pool last summer has indicated that he will be removing himself from Olympic consideration.
