Union Olimpija upsets Partizan, 66-59
Adriatic League – Union Olimpija Ljubljana took care of business on its home turf as they came away with a 66-59 upset win over BC Partizan NiS Beograd. Slovenian club Union Olimpija made the most of their home court advantage at Ljubljana against their Serbian visitors.
The visitors had an off night and struggled to execute their offense. Partizan recorded only five assists for the whole game. They also struggled from three-point range going 4-19. Milenko Tepic was held to just six points as he missed both of his two-point field goal attempts.
The home team was hot from the opening buzzer and built a sizable lead in the first quarter. Union Olimpija built on their early momentum and widened their lead at the half, 42-25. Partizan was able to keep better pace in the third frame and finally mounted a massive rally in the fourth the cut the deficit to more manageable levels, but not enough to wrest the victory away from the hosts.
Union Olimpija rode the hot hand of Deividas Gailius who finished the contest with 20 points and five rebounds. He was fouled by Partizan 10 times during the game and was able to convert nine of his twelve attempts from the line. Fellow starters Jakov Vladovic and Nebojsa Joksimovic added 12 and 10 points respectively.
Partizan got 19 points from Bogdan Bogdanovic who kept on shooting from deep, but only converted three of his eleven attempts. Regular scorers Tarence Kinsey and Sasha Pavlovic were held to just 10 and 11 points each.
