Unics Kazan takes the lead in the VTB League semi-finals
In the VTB League semi-finals, Unics Kazan beat Lokomotiv on the road in overtime (98-87). They are now 1-0 in the semi-final series.
Lokomotiv Krasnodar entered the semi-finals with a handicap since they had to play without two key players; regular-season MVP Mantas Kalnietis and Nigel Williams-Goss.
Therefore it was no wonder that Unics Kazan was the favorite tonight, and indeed they lived up to that reputation. They took the lead early on and regularly were ahead by 10 or 11 points (14 by halftime).
In the fourth quarter, Unics lead by 75-56, and it seemed like the game was over. However, Lokomotiv surprised everyone with a shocking come-back.
The unbeleivable happend, Lokomotiv came back and forced an overtime and even took the lead!
However, the joy was short-lived. Unics Kazan got more aggressive on defense, and Lokomotiv had problems scoring. In the end, there was no sensation, and Unics won the game with 98-87.
Game two is on Thursday in Kazan.
