Unics Kazan reaches Russian Cup Final
Unics Kazan booked a place in the Russian Cup Final by overcoming Khimky Moscow Region on aggregate despite losing in Thursday´s game. Kazan visited Khimky and slipped to a 79-76 loss, but managed to progress with an aggregate score of 152-138 after last week´s 17 point home win in Game 1.
The first half was plain sailing for Unics Kazan as the team enhanced it lead and maintained a 17 point aggregate advantage through the first and second periods. By half time the visitors held a six point lead and looked good, but Khimky was not finished in the game or the series. The third stanza went by with both team trading blows until the scoreboard was still six points in favor of Unics Kazan. However, Khimky was not finished and in the fourth frame the hosts reeled off 27 points to snatch a 79-76 win. It was a strong comeback, but ultimately it was not enough as Kazan booked passage to the Russian Cup final where the club will play Lokomotiv Kuban.
Petteri koponen led Khimky to the win with 18 points, while Kresimir Loncar added 17 points.
The losers on the night but winners overall Unics had Andrew Goudelock once again pacing them with 25 points.
