Double joy for KIU in ANBL
It doesn’t happen often but it was double joy for Kampala International University in the Airtel National Basketball League as both sides of the Kasanga based university posted wins on Friday evening.
The mens team, KIU Titans beat Ndejje Angels 57-40 and the ladies team, KIU Rangers beat MUK Sparks 74-47.
The Titans capitalised on Angels’ slippery hands in the fourth quarter to pull away as the game was a close contest in the first three quarters. Angels committed 37 turnovers in the game while Titans (11-4) limited themselves to just 15. Both teams were ineffective on shooting from the field with KIU shooting under 30% and Ndejje under 39% but the difference was the trips to the line.
KIU made more trips to the line and were 16-for-34 while Ndejje made 5-of-13 from the line on the way to their fourth straight loss. Titan, Joshua Etalu led the game with 21 points and 15 rebounds playing the entire 40 minutes.
Francis Kasekende added 11 points for KIU and Salim Ali chipped in with 10. Geofrey Solo paced Angels (6-9) with 12 points and 12 rebounds on a 42.9% shooting from the field and Micheal Opolot scored a point less.
In the ladies game, Judith Nansobya led KIU Rangers with 18 points including 4 treys, Susan Amito added 17 points. Florence Nanyonga and Jacklyn Natocho also scored in double digits for KIU.
Charlene Karungi continued her great run to to the season with a 20/13 performance for MUK Sparks on a 50% shooting from inside and 6-of-9 from the line. Winnie Anyango added 15 points for Sparks.
