Turkish Airlines EuroLeague: Regular Season final round

Turkish Airlines EuroLeague

The 2016/2017 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season is closing for business this week, but there is still plenty of action over Thursday and Friday. The biggest game of the week will be between Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul and Crvena Zvezda Belgrade in Turkey tomorrow. That contest will decide which of those clubs will progress by claiming the last Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Play-Offs.

There was still plenty of action on Thursday, however, so let’s see how it played out.

Fenerbahce Istanbul vs. FC Barcelona, 68-65

Fenerbahce wrapped up the Regular Season with a win and ended Barcelona’s horrible Turkish Airlines EuroLeague season with a loss. The Turkish champs progress to the Play-Offs while Barcelona has already been eliminated. In this game, the game was tight throughout as the teams traded buckets and the lead throughout. The contest was tied at 58-58 through regulation time, before Fenerbahce claimed the overtime period for the win.

Brose Bamberg vs. Galatasaray Istanbul, 79-84

Both of these clubs were eliminated weeks ago. Since then, Galatasaray has been on a solid run, while Brose Bamberg’s horrendous form has continued. The hosts actually led 45-43 at halftime, and extended its lead to 63-58 through thirty minutes of the game. Galatasaray changed the course of the contest with 26 fourth quarter points to turn the game around. Sinan Guler topped the winners with a game-high 17 points.

Maccabi Tel Aviv vs. Panathinaikos Athens, 61-81

A game between two clubs brings together two of the biggest names in European hoops, both multiple former EuroLeague champs. However, Tel Aviv is deep into a transition period and is unable to compete against the best on the continent. That was shown on Thursday as already-qualified Panathinaikos eased past the eliminated Israeli giant. The hosts were firmly in control at 42-32 through halftime. The second half saw Tel Aviv collapse as The Green improved with 49 points to turn the game around.
