Turkey takes 2013 Mediterranean Games Gold
The host country Turkey earned themselves 2013 Mediterranean Games Gold medals on the hardwood on Tuesday with a 17-point win over Serbia, 79:62. Turkey went undefeated in the competition with their closest contest coming in the Semi-Finals over Tunisia in an eight-point contest, 77:69, that was just had Turkey up by just two points going into final frame before they were able to close the door and grab a spot in the finals. Every other contest was by 19-points or more.
In the second semi-final, Serbia pounded FYR Macedonia 94:49 to set up the Turkey-Serbia finals.
Turkey got a slim lead early in the finals, getting out 21:18 after the first 10, but then put up a huge second quarter to dominate the first half with a 45:28 score at the break.
The second half was much closer as the Serbian club won the third quarter 17:19 to cut the Turks’ advantage to 15, 62:47, heading into the final frame.
The hosts got their two points back from the third, and that was all they’d get, but it was enough to roll to a 17-point victory in the championship contest.
Cemal Nalga paced Turkey with 14,Cerhat Cetin and Baris Ermis added 13 points each.
Nikola Kalinic dropped in a game-high 16 points for Serbia, while Milos Dimic scored 13 points.
Tunisia defeated the FYR Macedonia 63:58 in the Bronze medal game.
