Trent Lockett lands with Unics Kazan
Trent Lockett (196 cm, Marquette ’13) is the newest member of the backcourt of Unics Kazan (Russia-VTB). Lockett’s new team just underwent a solid year in the VTB. They finished the season at 15-9 which was good enough for fifth in the standings. The playoffs did not serve the bunch well as they went home early after a first round loss in four games to Lokomotiv Kuban (Russia-VTB). Unics also saw action in the Euroleague a year ago but failed to hold their own. Finishing in 15th place with an 8-22 record was not what the team planned for going into the year. Improvement will be needed due to their recent struggles and this addition should help the cause.
Now, they will add Lockett to their roster. He is a guard who knows how to score the basket, which he did a year ago with Betis Energia Plus Sevilla (Spain-Liga Endesa). In a role where he found 27.5 mpg, Lockett recorded 11.3 ppg while shooting 39.3 percent from three. The guard also grabbed 5.3 rpg but did not contribute much to the passing game with just 1.5 apg. Scoring and working hard in the paint and on defense is what the American guard does best. The Unics should be excited for t the 26-year-old guard after his strong 2016/2017 campaign. This will be his debut in the VTB, but his time in Spain, and even in the Serie A in Italy, should go a long way to his transition.
