Transylvania wins Romanian SuperCup
The first trophy of the 2016/2017 European Basketball season has been awarded after U-Banca Transylvania clinched the Romanian SuperCup title. The reigning cup holders overcame Romanian league winners Oradea in the season opener, taking the game 70-67.
U-Banca looked the slickest in offence during the first quarter and paced to an early 19-15 lead through ten minutes. Oradea reversed the momentum in the second stanza and managed to make it a one point game heading in at the long break, the score 34-33 to Transylvania. The league champs had the momentum now and manage to carve a three point advantage heading into the final split. However, U-Banca opened up in the fourth act and used a 21-15 run to clinch the silverware.
Aleksandar Rasic set the tone for the win with 19 points, while Filip Adamovic added 15 points, and Roland Torok 11 points.
Branko Mirkovic topped Oradea with a game high 19 points, followed by Sean Barnette’s 16 points.
