Torun stops Stelmet in PLK finals
Torun halted the march of Stelmet Zielona Gora in the Polish PLK finals series, claiming a 84-74 home win to a snap a two-game losing streak. Reigning double champions Stelmet had won the opening two contests of the series and would have been one game from a fourth title in five years with a win here.
However, Torun snatched the win, keeping the series interesting and the title picture wide open. The club now also holds home advantage in Game 4 and will be confident of tying the series. Of course, Stelmet can certainly not be dismissed and will be eager to move 3-1 ahead on Thursday.
Stelmet managed to carve a 14-18 advantage through the first quarter, before the hosts cut the deficit with a 23-21 second quarter that made it 37-39 through the long break. In the third act, Torun used a 22-18 run to open a 59-57 advantage through thirty minutes. A further 25 points in the fourth quarter stretched the lead and handed the home team the win.
Cheikh Mbodji scored 21 points to pace the win and completed a double-double with 10 rebounds. Kyle Weaver added 14 points and 8 boards, while Lukasz Wisniewski and Kure Skific scored 12 points apiece. Obadiah Trotter doubled up with 11 points and 14 scoring passes.
Thomas Kelati was hot for Stelmet with a game-high 25 points, followed by James Florence with 12 points.
