Top Five Shooting Guards in NBA History

Best Shooting Guards in NBA History: Number 3

Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat, Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers (2003 – 2019)

In Dwyane Wade’s first season in the NBA, he led the upstart Miami Heat to a surprising first round playoff series victory over the New Orleans Hornets. After superstar center Shaquille O’Neal joined the team that off-season, “Flash” would eventually lead the Heat to the 2006 NBA Championship after overcoming a two-game deficit in the NBA Finals.

At 6’4″ tall, Dwyane Wade’s game looked like a mix between David Thompson and Sidney Moncrief. Like Thompson, he could leap over the top of defenses and finish above the rim for electrifying slams. Like Moncrief, he was one of the best perimeter defender the league had ever seen.

In 2009, after returning to full-form from an injury plagued 2008 campaign, Wade led the league in scoring while averaging over 30 points per game. There are still those who would argue that he should have been given that season’s MVP Award for his stellar play. In the 2010 off-season, Wade’s basketball story would be forever altered when he was joined by superstar forwards Chris Bosh and LeBron James. The Miami Heat now had one of the most formidable “Big Threes” the league had ever seen.

The Heat would go on to make four consecutive trips to the NBA Finals, including two championships in 2012 and 2013. Through it all, Wade provided highlight reel plays, clutch jump shots and electrifying chase down blocks. Whenever there is a conversation about the best shooting guards to ever play the game, the inclusion of Dwyane Wade is an absolute must. He is one of the best to ever do it and the marquee player in the history of the Miami Heat franchise.
