Top 10 Best NBA Trios in History
Greatest Trios in NBA History: Number 5
Boston Celtics; Garnett, Pierce, and Allen (2008 NBA Champions)
When Boston Celtics General Manager, Danny Ainge, was able to pull off two blockbuster trades to bring Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett to the team in the summer of 2007, it was the beginning of the modern super-team era in the NBA. Those two stars, along with perennial All-Star Paul Pierce, made the Celtics the instant favorite to win the 2008 Larry O’Brien trophy.
The Celtics were dominant all season long. Under the tutelage of head coach Doc Rivers, the team accumulated the most regular season wins in the league. After marching through the Eastern Conference playoffs, the team found themselves matched up against Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson, and the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Finals. Although Kobe had moments of brilliance during the series, it was not enough to overcome Boston’s superstar trio. The Celtics won the decisive Game 6 in a blowout in front of their hometown fans. The new Big-3 had done it; the Boston Celtics were world champions once again!
