Tony Wroten heads to Bucaneros de La Guaira

Tony Wroten (198 cm, Washington ’12) is moving on to the Bucaneros de La Guaira (Venezuela-LPB). This follows a 16-game run with the Texas Legends (USA- D-League) this season. In the D-league, Wroten scored 12.6 ppg with 2.3 apg and 2.6 rpg. A consistent jump shot is the biggest flaw in Wroten’s game. This trend continued this season as he shot 28.8 percent from three and 52.8 from the free throw line.

He failed to break into the NBA season after playing from 2012-2016. The Memphis Grizzlies originally drafted the guard with the 25th pick in the first round of the 2012 NBA draft. After making the team in his rookie year, he stayed with Memphis for his rookie season. The team and Wroten split ways prior to the 2013/2014 season which led him to sign with the Philadelphia 76ers. His first year with Philadelphia was impressive for the guard. Wroten scored 16.9 ppg while dishing 5.2 apg and hauling in 2.9 rpg. His numbers didn’t sustain the next season with the 76ers. Wroten was cut after eight games.

Wroten slowly has fallen lower and lower in the basketball food chain. Now he will leave the USA for the first time in his career. The Bucaneros de La Guaira will be glad to have the experienced guard and might be a good place for a boost of confidence for Wroten. Currently, the team is second in the Eastern conference in the LPB with a 15-14 record.
