Tomislav Zubčić leaves Cibona for Lietuvos Rytas
Tomislav Zubčić is leaving Croatian and Adriatic League team KK Cibona. He will sign for Lietuvos Rytas from Lithuania.
“There was an option for Zubčić to leave, due to the financial problems of the club. This way, both Zubčić and Cibona are satisfied”
said Danijel Lutz, the coach of the team.
Behind the scenes however, things don’t look too cozy and smooth at all. Tomislav Zubčić is one of the best players of Cibona and a starter. Not exactly a player that any club would let go in the middle of the season. Especially since his contract would normally not expire until the end of the 2013/2014 season. In addition, American Smush Parker was just released today, and Sports Director Nikola Prkačin also recently left the club. All these things suggest that the financial problems of the club are becoming so big that the club is starting to fall apart.
Cibona has only won 2 out of the last 10 games in the Adriatic league.
The 23 year old, 208 cm, Tomislav Zubčić is headed to Lithuania where he will sign with Lietuvos Rytas and replace fellow Croatian Leon Radošević. He just left for Italy, where he signed (back) with Olimpia Milano.
Tomislav Zubčić was drafted this summer in the 2nd round (56) by the Toronto Raptors.

I like this mostly to see Zubcic play elsewhere. Curious to see if his enormous potential will come out.
Win win situation. Cibona will get some financial relief, Zubcic will be paid on time and see how tough the money in foreign leagues is, and Rytas will get a very good player.
One of the top talents of the past.
Don’t know if this transfer works for him.
