Telenet Oostende three-peat as Belgian champs
Telenet Oostende has won its third-straight Belgian Ethias league championship after knocking out Okapi Aalstar, 98-61, in the decisive fifth game of the Finals. The club that once dominated the league in the 80s with a dynasty that stretched from 1981 to 1986, could be ushering a new reign in Belgium.
Even though the 2014 Belgian Cup winners did not breeze through the series, they definitely made short work of their opponents in this game. Telenet Oostende wanted this win and made sure they secured it from the get-go. They took an early lead in the game and did not allow Okapi Aalstar to contest them, even widening their lead at the end of every quarter. The victors outclassed their competitors in almost every category, beating out Okapi Aalstar in rebounding, assists, steals and three-point shots made.
Ryan Thompson led Oostende with 21 points. Wesley Wilkinson put up a double-double with 15 points and 11 boards. Dusan Djordevic was three rebounds shy of a triple-double performance as he scored 11 points, handed out 10 assists and taking down seven boards. Jean Salumu chipped in 15 points off the bench.
John Tofi led Okapi Aalstar with 12 points, while Derek Raivio added 11.
