Spain ACB Liga Endesa: Real Madrid dominates
We are through seven rounds of the Spanish ACB Liga Endesa and Real Madrid continues to hold dominion over the league. Los Blancos secured another win on Sunday to extend its unbeaten record this season. Nearest rivals and current ACB Liga Endesa champs Valencia Basket also won, while Barcelona continued its mini resurgence with a success in third place. Elsewhere, Gran Canaria moved up thanks to its win, while the wheels continued to fall of Fuenlabrada’s form.
Iberoster Tenerife vs. Real Madrid, 74-84
After its first loss of the season in the EuroLeague last week, Real Madrid bounced back in the ACB Liga Endesa. Los Blancos now sits top with the only unbeaten record (7-0) this season. FIBA Basketball Champions League winners Tenerife put up a fight in the first half and the teams tied 42-42. In the second half, Real Madrid pulled away and sealed the victory by winning the third and foruth quarters.
Valencia vs. Burgos, 87-78
Valencia kept close behind Real Madrid (6-1) with a comfortable home win over Burgos, the club that is still bottom of the ACB Liga Endesa without a single victory. Reigning champs Valencia controlled large parts of the contest, and arguably the difference was made from the charity stip. The hosts made 26-of-28 points, while Burgos managed just four free throw points from the line. Valencia’s attacking performance was solid, with 22 assists dished out by the champs.
Bilbao Basket vs. Barcelona, 83-104
Barcelona had an early season wobble with two defeats (at home and in EuroLeague), but have bounced back in style over the last week. The Catalan giant swamped Bilbao with a flashy offensive performance. Barca was stunning from beyond the arc, smashing 17 three pointers with 56% accuracy. In a rounded attacking display, Barcelona offered 22 scoring passes as six players scored more than 10 points.
