Soles de Mexicali claims LNBP title
Soles de Mexicali defeated Capitanes on Wednesday to take the Mexico LNBP finals series 4-1 and claim another title. The win marks a third league crown for Soles de Mexicali after previous wins in 2006 and 2015. This victory also stopped Capitanes winning what would have been its first-ever LNBP title.
The writing has been on the wall through the series as Soles has been the better team. An 83-87 road win confirmed the team’s dominance. Soles de Mexicali edged ahead early, taking the first quarter 17-21 and continued to hold the momentum in the second quarter with a 14-18 run. Through halftime, Soles was comfortable at 31-39.
Capitanes found some fight in the third act, claiming the frame 21-16 to reduce the deficit to 52-55 through thirty minutes. Both teams threw caution to the wind in the fourth quarter and both topped thirty points, but while Capitanes won the frame 32-31, it was not enough to stop Soles winning the title.
