Slovakia fully reinstated by FIBA

Slovakia – FIBA has officially lifted its suspension of the Slovak Basketball Association and reinstating it with full rights, allowing its national teams and officials to participate in all FIBA competitions and activities.

According to the FIBA Europe website:

This means the Slovak Republic will take its place in the EuroBasket 2015 Men’s and Women 2nd Qualifying Rounds, FIBA Europe’s 2014 youth championships and the upcoming FIBA U17 World Championship for Women.

The EuroBasket Women 2015 2nd Qualifying Round takes place throughout the month of June. The Slovakians have been drawn to compete with Slovenia, Poland and Luxembourg in Group A. The EuroBasket 2015 2nd Qualifying Round takes place in August. Slovak Republic will line up next to Romania, Latvia and Sweden in Group F.

Additionally, men’s and women’s teams from the Slovak Republic will compete in the Qualifier s for the 3×3 European Championships. The men’s team will play in Qualifier 1 in Zanka, Hungary from 12-13 July, and the women will compete in Qualifier 3 in Riga, Latvia from 2-3 August.

Slovakia was originally suspended due to outstanding debts. Lubomir Rysavy, Secretary General of the SBA, made an announcement regarding the suspension in SBA’s website:

Slovak Basketball Association (hereinafter “SBA”) hereby announces that FIBA ​​temporarily suspended the membership of the SBA in FIBA ​​outstanding commitments in respect of the years 2008 – 2012. FIBA ​​From the side it is a standard procedure for settlement of claims in relation to national federations.

Now negotiations are carried out with the settlement of outstanding debts FIBA ​​and lifting the suspension of membership.
