Scottie Reynolds going to Zenit Saint Petersburg
Scottie Reynolds (188 cm, Villanova ’11) is set to join Zenit Saint Petersburg (Russia-VTB). Reynolds attempted to play in the VTB a year ago but failed to make the Avtodor Saratov (Russia-VTB) roster after the preseason. Instead, the point guard quickly moved to KK Cibona VIP Zagreb (Croatia-A1) and stayed there for all of 2016/2017. The Croatian team underwent a successful season, going 20-6 which was good for fourth place. Reynolds contributed with 8.1 ppg and 5.6 apg in 25.7 mpg off the bench. The team also competed in the European Cup, ABA League, and Champions League last season. Reynolds seemed to play the best in the European Cup and Champions League which suggests he can play in multiple countries with success.
He will put this claim to the test with Zenit starting next season. They are coming off a very productive 2016/2017 season. Finishing with a 21-3 record put Zenit in second place in the VTB. However, they were eliminated in the semifinals in five games against Khimki (Russia-VTB). Also in the European Cup, the Russian squad did not make it past the quarters. The addition of Reynolds should add veteran leadership and a guard who can pass and score. He proved what he can do against major competition which will need to continue in order for this move to work for both sides.
