Sarunas Jasikevicius in the mix for next Grizzlies coaching job
NBA – The Memphis Grizzlies are in the market for a new head coach. They are still in the early stages of their search but word is that 43-year-old Lithuanian Sarunas Jasikevicius is the mix for the gig. He’s a basketball institution to in Lithuanian hoops and has been the head coach of Lithuanian powerhouse B.C. Zalgiris Kaunas.
Jasikevicius is no stranger to calls from the NBA, having previously been interviewed by Masai Ujiri for the head coaching job of the Raptors last season. The Grizzlies parted ways with J.B. Bickerstaff at the end of the regular season (33-49).
Zalgiris was recently eliminated from the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague playoffs but are still the hands-down favorites to add another Lithuanian League trophy to their stacked case as they head home.
With the Phoenix Suns’ recent firing of Igor Kokoskov, there currently is no sitting European head coach in the top basketball league in the world. Will Sarunas Jasikevicius be next? Stay tuned.
