San Lorenzo takes charge of Liga A finals
San Lorenzo took commanding charge of the Argentine Liga A finals series with an 86-67 home demolition over La Union formosa in Game 3. The result means San Lorenzo now takes a 3-0 lead in the series and considering the nature of the victories so far, the club is on course for a clean sweep to the Liga A title.
Whether San Lorenzo continue the march or La Union mounts an historic comeback, Argentine will have a new Basketball champion in 2016. Neither of these has ever tasted title success in Liga A.
With home court advantage and a 2-0 series lead, San Lorenzo looked certain to be the winners here, but the game did not go to plan in the first quarter. The hosts were stunned by a La Union effort as the guests rushed to get back into the title picture. The visitors claimed a 20-21 first act lead, but that was as good as it would get for La Union.
San Lorenzo tightened the defensive screw in the second frame and plundered 17 points for a 17-9 lead that made it 37-30 through the long break. The home team continued the momentum in the third quarter, using a 26-21 streak to extend the lead through thirty minutes, the scoreboard reading 63-51. In a flashy fourth act, the hosts took the series by the scruff of the neck with a 23-16 charge that made this a cruising win.
Matthew Bryan-Amaning led San Lorenzo with 21 points and 8 rebounds, while Marcus Elliot added 15 points. Lucas Faggiano from the bench and Marcus Mata at the start drained 10 points each, a haul that was also matched by Walter Herrmann.
Torin Francis was a shining light for La Union with a stunning double-double of 25 points and 16 rebounds in the losing effort.
