Rustavi wins the Georgian championship
Basketball club Rustavi is the champion of Georgia again after 11 years. Lead by head coach Anatoli Boisa, assisted by Mikheil Beruashvili and Zura Matchavariani, Rustavi also won the third match of the final series against Tskhum-Apkhazeti (94-88) and became the Super League champion for the first time since 2010.
It is true that Tskhum-Apkhazeti, coached by Nikoloz Cherkezishvili, lost the final series 0:3, but this team deserves praise. Like the previous match, Tskhumi fought until the end and had quite a good chance to win.
With three minutes left in the game, Rustavi was hanging in the ropes. Jylan Washington got his 5th personal foul and left the court. Before that, Rustavi lost other members of the starting five – Merab Boqolishvili and Gegi Baqradze. In other words, a solid part of Rustavi was fouled out.
At that moment, youngster Zura Vashakidze was the one who determined the fate of the game by scoring one of the most important three-pointers in the last minute and giving Rustavi a 90-86 lead. It was enough to keep Tskhum-Apkhazeti at bay and ultimately win the game with 94-88.
