Romeo Travis Wins Arbitration vs. KK Zadar
Romeo Travis (201 cm, Akron’07) and his agents filed a claim against former team KK Zadar (Croatia-A1) at the Basketball Arbitral Tribunal (BAT) for outstanding salaries, bonuses, agents fees, and interest. The claimants submitted that the club failed to remit payment for the last two salary installments. Romeo Travis is known from the basketball documentary More Than a Game. The Arbitrator upheld the claim in its entirety.
On November 18th, as a result of the club remaining in breach of its obligation to honor the BAT award, FIBA imposed a ban on registration of new players to Croatian Club Zadar Basketball Club.
The Award read as follows:
1. Zadar Basketball Club shall pay Mr. Romeo Travis the following amounts, net of tax, as compensation:
• USD 16,000.00, plus interest of 5% p.a. on such amount from 16 May 2013 onwards.
• USD 16,000.00, plus interest of 5% p.a. on such amount from 16 June 2013 onwards.
• USD 3,500.00, plus interest of 5% p.a on such amount from 12 June 2013 onwards.
2. Zadar Basketball Club shall pay Mr. Aaron Reilly an amount of USD 7,000.00, net of tax, plus interest of 5% p.a. on such amount from 1 December 2013 onwards.
3. Zadar Basketball Club shall pay Mr. Jan Rohdewald an amount of USD 2,000.00, net of tax, as compensation, plus interest of 5% p.a. on such amount from 1 December 2013 onwards.
4. Zadar Basketball Club shall pay Mr. Romeo Travis, Mr. Aaron Reilly and Mr. Jan Rohdewald, jointly, an amount of EUR 4,260.00 as reimbursement for their arbitration costs.
5. Zadar Basketball Club shall pay Mr. Romeo Travis, Mr. Aaron Reilly and Mr. Jan Rohdewald, jointly, an amount of EUR 6,500.00 as a contribution to their legal fees and expenses.
6. Any other or further-reaching requests for relief are dismissed.
