Rift in Mongolian Basketball
2012 marks the 50th anniversary of the development of basketball in Mongolia, where the world of Mongolian basketball was divided into two parts. A nongovernmental organization named the Mongolian National Basketball Union, apart from the Mongolian Basketball Association (MBA), announced its establishment yesterday at a press conference. This new union was established by owners and coaches of several strong Mongolian team and head of ‘TLG-13’ NGO S.Tulga. This union determined its structure and members with its first meeting on January 20, 2012, and they are stating that they have established a separate union as they believe the position and prospect of the MBA are uncertain. The head of ‘TLG-13’ NGO S.Tulga, General Secretary of the Mongolian National Basketball Union D.Ganzorig and legionary players of the ‘TLG-13’ team Clarence Jeffrey and Ken Blake attended the press conference. During the press conference, introductions were made on the activities, future planned events and plans of the Mongolian National Basketball Union where they also mentioned about the ambiguity and dispute in the world of Mongolian basketball. They stated that they have decided to establish a new union as the ‘TLG-13’ team was eliminated without any justification from the Pepsi High League Championships to be held on February 15, 2012 and also because the MBA has stopped organizing competitions between the youth in the latest. Currently, it is indefinite on how the two unions will co-exist and divide the teams and players.
