Real Madrid Stays Hot, Tops ACB Standings
European juggernaut Real Madrid continues on its tear in the Spanish Liga Endesa (ACB). The now 9-1 club remains the sole leader of the domestic Spanish League standings after 10 rounds in the 2017-18 regular season. On December 3rd Real Madrid stomped Herbalife Gran Canaria in one of the more dominant victories of the round, 96-72. While their run remains impressive, their lead is not secure by any means. Just one game behind, and hot on their heels, are two clubs fully capable of claiming that alpha position after the slightest misstep by Real Madrid. Valencia Basket and FC Barcelona (8-2) remain within striking distance. They both came away with their own victories in Round 10 keeping the race for the top spot very tight.
Real Madrid put on a clinic, as they let their offense speak for itself. Luka Doncic had a near-perfect game, leading the team with 16 points and five assists. Speaking of assists, the whole team’s unselfish, up-tempo style of play was on full display with Real Madrid racking up a total of 21 assists. It was not all offense, all the time for the league leaders. Their defense was also proved valuable as well. They forced 20 turnovers out of Gran Canaria. Real Madrid dominated the game from start to finish and managed to cruise to an easy win.
Which team will finish as the top seed heading into the playoffs? With 10 games in the books, it’s too early to tell. However, it is Real Madrid that has the biggest target on their backs.
