Real Madrid Sweeps Their Way Into ACB Finals
Real Madrid completed a clean 3-0 sweep of their semifinals series against Herbalife Gran Canaria on Friday to advance to the Spanish ACB (Liga Endesa) Finals. The 2018 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague champions took the Game-3 road win 99-92. They now await the winner of the series between Baskonia and Barcelona, which has Baskonia ahead 2-1. The next game in that semifinals tilt will be held on June 10th. For now, Real Madrid gets some well-deserved rest and a chance to recharge, refocus and get ready for their next opponents.
Veteran guard, Rudy Fernandez turned back the clock in this game and exploded for a game-high 21 points to lead Real Madrid to victory. Jaycee Carroll added 17 points off the bench. Both players accounted for six of the team’s 10 3-pointers in the game.
Gran Canaria had the advantage on the boards and in the assist totals but was not able to take care of the ball in key junctures of the game. They committed 12 turnovers in this game compared to just seven by Real Madrid. They had a balanced offense with six players scoring in double figures, led by the 17 points put up by Eulis Baez. To their credit, Gran Canaria kept the game close in the first half. It was not until the third period that Real Madrid established a more definitive command of the game and eventually held on for the win.
Real Madrid is on the cusp of completing an amazing season on a high note. Will they be able to capture both the EuroLeague and the ACB crowns in 2017-18? Well, they one last series that they need to hurdle and win.
