Real Madrid Opens 2018-19 With Win At Home
Spanish Liga Endesa and Turkish Airlines EuroLeague defending champions, Real Madrid, opened 2018-19 with an 88-73 win at home over Iberostar Tenerife CB Canarias. This comes as the Spanish ACB wraps up the first round of the season.
The white shirts did not appear to skip a beat as they looked fresh and ready to go. Most of the key players from their successful 2017-18 campaign returned so it should come as no surprise that one of Europe’s top teams would find success in the early goings of 2018-19.
Real Madrid dominated the glass with Mexican big man Gustavo Ayon setting the tone with 17 boards to his name. They had a total of 38 rebounds in the game compared to 27 from Tenerife. Real Madrid’s balanced offense took care of the rest, with veteran Anthony Randolph taking care of business on that end with a game-high 13 points.
Coming into this contest Tenerife knew it would be their defense that would make or break it for them. They put up a good effort, but Real Madrid remained the team that was able to dictate the tempo of the game. Lucca Staiger paced Tenerife with 11 points, while Rodrigo San-Miguel chimed in with 10 points of his own.
