Real Madrid is the 2019 ACB Champion
Real Madrid defeated Barcelona in Game 4 of the Spanish ACB Finals (68-74) and claimed the title.
The “Whites” won the series 3-1 and earned the title for a second straight time and 35th overall.
Real Madrid were in front from the beginning (21-22, 33-37) and never looked back. Pablo Laso saw his players lead by 12 (55-67) and seal the deal. Barcelona never recovered after that.
Facundo Campazzo led the winners, with 15 points, nine assists and six rebounds. He was also named the MVP of the Finals.
Rudy Fernandez (12 points) and Walter Tavares (10 points, 13 boards) stood out for Real Madrid as well.
On the other hand, Kevin Pangos had a game-high 16 points for the losing squad. Chris Singleton and Adam Hanga added 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Catalans.
This was the second straight ACB title for the “Whites” and fourth in the last five years. Coach Laso also claimed his fifth ACB title in eight years.
Even though they failed to win the EuroLeague title, Real Madrid finished the season in a successful way. Now, they will attempt to further strengthen their roster in order to win the EuroLeague again.
On the other hand, Barcelona will have to regroup for another year. Although they won the Copa Del Rey and advanced to the EuroLeague playoffs, they came up short in the end.
They failed to reach the Final Four and also lost the title to their archrivals. It is certain that many changes will take place in the roster.
Starting from the bench, coach Svetislav Pesic has an offer to remain with the club. Yet, the Spanish media mentions that Pedro Martinez will take over the team.
At the same time, EuroLeague champion Cory Higgins (CSKA Moscow) is expected to join the club. Barcelona will now focus on signing top class players in order to create a powerful roster.
That said, they now have their sights set on returning to the top of Europe and Spain.
