Rasid Mahalbasic joins EWE Baskets Oldenburg

Rasid Mahalbasic (210 cm) agreed to terms with EWE Baskets Oldenburg (Germany-BBL). Mahalbasic’s new team is coming off an above-average regular season as they finished fifth in the BBL with an 18-14 record. However, they found much more success in the postseason. Oldenburg made a deep run all the way to the finals. Their run came up a bit short after losing to Brose Basket (Germany-BBL) in three games. They’ll look to build off of their impressive path to the finals and the addition of the new big man should help.

Mahalbasic was with Sevilla for 22 games a year ago. The big man played well in 23.7 mpg with the team as he recorded 10.1 ppg and 6.6 rpg.  The team did not live up to expectations as they ended their season with a 9-23 record which put them near the bottom of the BBL. Mahalbasic saw elite talent in the Liga Endesa and still was able to hang with the competition. Moving to Germany shouldn’t be much of a transition for the veteran.

Mahalbasic also found time with Yesilgiresun Belediye (Turkey-BSL) at the beginning of last season. His stint only lasted nine games but the team gave him plenty of minutes with 21.0 mpg. His numbers remained the same in the BSL with 11.2 ppg and 5.9 rpg. Expect similar stats from the 26-year-old Austrian for Oldenburg next season.
