Rudy Gay traded to the Sacramento Kings
The Sacramento Kings have acquired high-scoring forward Rudy Gay (203 cm, Connecticut’06) from the Toronto Raptors in a trade involving seven players. Aside from Gay, the Kings will be receiving Aaron Gray (213 cm, Pittsburgh’07) and Quincy Acy (201 cm, Baylor’12). In exchange, Sacramento will be sending to Toronto Venezuelan guard Greivis Vasquez (198 cm, Maryland’10), Patrick Patterson (206 cm, Kentucky’10) and veterans John Salmons (198 cm, Miami, Florida’02) and Chuck Hayes (198 cm, Kentucky’05)
The Kings have been in the market to fill their void at the small forward position for some time now and letting go of some of their depth made sense in order for them to land a dynamic scorer such as Gay. Former starting point guard, Greivis Vasquez was already getting some stiff competition for minutes from his back up Isaiah Thomas, who was as of late garnering more minutes.
The Raptors want to rebuild their team around young Lithuanian big man Jonas Valanciunas and offloading Gay’s hefty contract provides them with more financial flexibility moving forward.
