Quimsa wins Basketball Champions League Americas
Argentinian team Quimsa captured the first title of the Basketball Champions League Americas on Friday night with a 92-86 triumph over Flamengo.
At the Antel Arena, the team from Santiago del Estero trailed, 68-63, with a quarter left but battled back and took the lead for good with less than four minutes remaining.
Pablo Gramajo struck with a three-pointer for an 80-77 advantage, and then Robinson followed with another shot from the arc to stretch the lead to six. A pair of Fabián Ramírez free-throws made it 85-77, and Flamengo got no closer than four points the rest of the way.
Robinson had 26 points on nine-of-15 shooting, including three of six from long range for Quimsa, who led by as many as 12 points in the game but had to pull off a second straight comeback.
In their Semi-Final series clinching victory over San Lorenzo on October 27, Quimsa hit back from a 17-point deficit to prevail, 110-97. The Semi-Final had been knotted at 1-1 when the competition was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Flamengo booked their place in the title game after sweeping Instituto de Cordoba, 2-0, in their best-of-three Semi-Final in March.
