Qatar League opens 2014-15 season!
Doha, Qatar – Over the last couple of days the Division I Qatar league ushered in the 2014/15 season with four exciting games. The 2014 defending champions Al Gharafa, were able to defend their home court and come away with the 80-67 win over Al Shamal. They got a huge lift from American import Larry Blair who poured in 29 points for the game. He spearheaded some key rallies in the second half to lead his team as they climbed out of a 16-point deficit to eventually wrench control of the game from their guests and eventually move on to secure the win.
Another strong team in the league, Al Sadd had an easy 71-48 win over Al Ahli Sports Club Doha. Al Sadd took control of their game from the very beginning, in stark contrast to the tug-of-war encounter between Al Gharafa and Al Shamal. Al Saad looked sharp on defense as Al Ahli could not buy a basket for long stretches. Al Sadd was led by the duo of Rashad Woods and Khalid Suliman Abdi. Woods was impressive with 23 points and 13 rebounds, while Abdi was no slouch with 14 points and 15 boards of his own. Al Ahli’s lone bright spot for the game was Tyronne Deralle, who managed a game-high 25 points. He also collected 10 rebounds in his effort to carry his team.
Al Jaysh won at home versus Al Wakrah, 111-89. Al Arabi stole a win on the road against Al Khor, 59-70.
