Prokom cuts long-term contracts

The financial woes at Asseco Prokom Gdynia (Poland) continue to escalate and it is increasingly looking like the financial situation at the club is un-repairable. Yesterday the general manager of Prokom, Walter Jeklin left the team after an unsuccessful attempt to turn around the fortunes of Poland’s most famed team domestically and internationally.

The latest news from the growing saga is that Prokom has now asked three of its players on long contracts to accept shorter deals that only keep them with the team until the summer. On top of that the players will also have to take a 50% pay cut. Lukasz Koszarek, Mateusz Ponitka and Przemyslaw Zamojski are the players who will have to shorten their contracts but whether they will agree to the proposal remains to be seen.

Despite the fact that former owner Ryszard Krauze recently sold Prokom to company Asseco Poland there is still major financial restraints in place, especially as Asseco plan to run the business on a limited budget. It has also emerged today that the front office will be reduced to just three people.
