Polish TBL: Stelmet ZG bests Trefl Sopot
The top two teams in Poland’s TBL went to battle and Stelmet Zielona Gora, the league leader, came out on top as they bested Trefl Sopot 85-66. The defending champions are still on track for a repeat performance of their 2012-13 run.
Montenegrin import Vladimir Dragicevic started things off with a lay-up, but it was Christian Eyenga who managed to control the first frame for Stelmet ZG. Eyenga scored the last five points for his team in the dying seconds of the quarter to put them up 19-14. The second period continued with more of the back-and-forth between the two competent squads, leaving the five-point deficit intact at the half, with Trefl Sopot trailing 31-38.
It was in the third quarter that Przemyslaw Zamojski went to work and where he did a lot of his damage (10 points) en route to his game-high 29 points. He scored from all over the court, knocking down treys, free throws and even mid-range jumpers. His explosion allowed Stelmet ZG to stretch their lead to 57-43. By the time the final period rolled around, Trefl Sopot could not catch up any more as Stelmet kept its momentum.
Even though only Christian Eyenga (13) and Przemyslaw Zamojski (29) managed to hit double figures for Stelmet ZG, two players managed to notch eight points apiece and two others made nine.
Trefl Sopot was led by the 12 points of Michal Michalak. He was helped by Pawel Leonczyk and Lithuanian import Sarunas Vasiliauskas, who scored 10 points each.
