Pistons’ Isaiah Stewart Sustains Toe Injury

Isaiah Stewart Suffers Toe Injury
Detroit Pistons young big man Isaiah Stewart will sit out for two to three weeks. According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, Stewart has sustained a sprained right big toe injury that will keep him out for the foreseeable future. The 21-year-old center only logged almost 13 minutes of play in Monday’s game against the Toronto Raptors, as he exited the contest early due to a toe sprain. Stewart tallied nine points, four rebounds, and one block that night, and the Pistons went on to lose a four-point decision to the Raptors.
This is another big hit to the Pistons’ roster depth, as they are already missing the services of starting point guard Cade Cunningham, who is sitting out due to left shin soreness. It also doesn’t help that Isaiah Stewart is playing the best basketball of his very young career, and this toe injury might hinder his progress. Since being selected 16th overall during the 2020 NBA Draft, Stewart has been showing his potential as a switchable, mobile big. This season has been his most productive so far, as he is tallying a near-double-double stat line of 12.0 points and 9.3 rebounds through 15 games as a starter for the Pistons.
Along with his potential on the defensive end of the floor, Stewart is also generating traction as a big who can space the floor on offense. He is shooting more threes this season (18-of-54 3P), and while it’s true that the 33.3% clip needs to improve, the Pistons should be happy that Stewart is willing to expand his skill set.
With a young squad headed by Cunningham, Stewart, and Jaden Ivey, the Pistons are currently in rebuilding mode. They have only won three of their first 15 games this season, and chances are they are headed towards another lottery pick in next year’s draft.
