Phoenix Suns Fire Igor Kokoskov
The Phoenix Suns announced on Monday that they will be firing Serbian head coach Igor Kokoskov after one season. The team finished with the worst record in the Western Conference (19-63), marking the third straight season that the franchise has ended a season at the bottom of the barrel.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, ” Suns had planned to bring Kokoskov back for a second season, especially after the team’s stronger play in late stages of the season. Kokoskov has been a well-respected tactician who becomes another victim of the constant turnover in Phoenix.”
As of now, there are no reports as to who is in the running to fill Kokoskov’s shoes in the coaching staff, but the Suns’ decision to fire a coach in the midst of a rebuilding phase does not bode well towards a sign that they are making their way out of the woods just yet, despite adding a solid rookie haul in 2018, headlined by second-overall pick Deandre Ayton, Mikal Bridges and Frenchman Elie Okobo.
