Phoenix Suns Express Interest in Shoring Up Their Frontcourt Depth
The Phoenix Suns are aiming to shore up their frontcourt depth by keeping an eye on this handful of names.
Phoenix Suns Now Exploring Frontcourt Options in Trade Market
In their bid to seriously compete for a championship in the 2022-23 NBA season, the Phoenix Suns are now exploring the trade market in their search for additional frontcourt depth. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Suns have recently expressed interest in trading for combo forwards such as Harrison Barnes of the Sacramento Kings, Kyle Kuzma of the Washington Wizards, and KJ Martin of the Houston Rockets. Charania also said that the Phoenix Suns are “showing desire” on pursuing the services of Atlanta Hawks power forward John Collins. The Hawks front office recently opened up discussions around Collins’ trade value and availability, with the Suns named as a possible partner.
With this information at hand, it’s obvious that the Suns are trying to shore up their depth at both small forward and power forward positions. It’s worth noting that young combo forward Cameron Johnson just had surgery to fix issues in his knee and that he’s expected to sit out for one to two months. Without Johnson for the foreseeable future, only Mikal Bridges and Torrey Craig are currently logging significant minutes as combo forwards, so the Suns surely need more depth on that front.
Of course, the Suns might not include any current key cog in trade negotiations. Their roster core is still one of the best groups in the NBA, and they still have a chance at competing for a championship without shaking up their roster. The Suns are sporting an excellent record of nine wins against five defeats, and they have upcoming battles with the New York Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Detroit Pistons.
