Zion Williamson Listed as Day-To-Day

New Orleans Pelicans star forward Zion Williamson recently sustained a right foot contusion, forcing him to sit out the game against Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies on Tuesday. According to an article released by NBA.com, Zion is currently listed day-to-day on the Pelicans’ injury report, which means that the right foot contusion isn’t anything severe or major. Pelicans head coach Willie Green also mentioned that the team believes Zion could play when they host the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday night.

The Pelicans still went on to defeat the Grizzlies, 113-102, thanks to CJ McCollum’s hot shooting in the second half. McCollum finished with 30 markers built on seven treys, while Larry Nance Jr. and Brandon Ingram chipped in 19 points apiece. New Orleans had to overcome Morant’s 36-point night, and they did it through a tremendous team effort.

But of course, the Pelicans still need Zion Williamson to be healthy for the most part. He already missed a few games due to a hip injury. Zion does deliver the goods when he plays, as evident in his current stat line of 23.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 1.1 steals through 11 games. He has a lot to prove this season, especially after missing the entirety of last year’s campaign due to a foot injury.

There’s no doubt that he’s an All-Star talent when he’s healthy — Zion did notch an All-Star appearance during the 2020-21 NBA season when he played 61 games. But staying healthy and available is a challenge for the 22-year-old power forward, and that’s a hurdle he has to overcome this year.
